Sepideh Rashnu statement before reporting to Tehran's Evin Prison

Poet, writer, and activist Sepideh Rashnu has been handed a 47-month jail sentence for her firm stand against laws enforcing compulsory headscarves. In 2022, her courageous defiance on a bus, which garnered widespread attention, kickstarted her ongoing advocacy for freedom of choice.

Rashnu appeared in her chosen clothing for court. She was prohibited from entering the building for her hearing.

The court proceeded without Sepideh Rashnu's presence since she was denied entry to the courthouse as a result of her refusal to wear the hijab, and the decision will be made in her absence as well.
